Introduction

2 Timothy 3:16-17

In the following weeks we are going to follow the Christian life of a man from the age of 16, until he goes to meet his Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus. We will learn how this man’s life is governed by the Bible and not by what he heard someone say.

During this journey we will learn some of the key terms dealing with Christians and how we are supposed to live. The big difference is, we are going to go strictly by what God’s word says and not the word of man. Yes, we will use reference books and we will use sermon notes, but not as the final authority. The final authority is the Word of God, Jesus the Christ

In the following paragraphs are some definitions that are crucial to understanding the bible and how God expects us to use the Word contained in the Bible in our daily dealings with the world. You should memorize these words and their meanings. Allow these words to govern how you study and perceive the bible.

¹⁶  All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,
¹⁷  that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NKJV)

The definition of the word “scripture” is “the sacred writings of Christianity contained in the Bible.” One thing we must remember is that all scripture in the Old Testament will lead to a commentary in the New Testament.

The definition of the word “commentary” is “an expression of opinions or offering of an explanation about an event or situation.”

The definition of the word “reproof” is “an expression of blame or disapproval.”

The definition of the word “correction” is “the action or process of correcting something.”

The definition of the word “instruction” is “detailed information telling how something should be done, operated, or assembled.”

The definition of the word “Righteousness” is “the quality of being morally right or justifiable.”

The definition of the word “complete” is “to make whole or perfect.”

The biblical definition of the word “good” is “possessing or displaying moral virtue.”

Remember, we must live “in” the word and make a living for our family. Therefore, we must obey the laws of the world (United States/ Our State) unless they are in direct conflict with God’s law. We do not have to live “of” the world, nor should we “follow” their way of life.

This does not indicate in any way that we must not drive cars, watch tv, or do other things that some un-knowing people say are sinful. We will approach these things as we watch this man walk through this world and keep his Christian values.
